Chasselas

Emblematic of French-speaking Switzerland, Chasselas is a very old grape native to the Lake Geneva region where it was already known as Fendant in the 17th century, in reference to its berries which "split" under the pressure of the fingers. The canton of Vaud has gradually abandoned the name of the grape variety in favor of the appellations of villages or vintages, so much so that since 1966 the name of Fendant has been protected exclusively for Valais, where the grape variety was introduced in 1848. Tremendous revealer of terroirs, Chasselas or Fendant is the most widely used white grape variety in Switzerland, cultivated mainly in the cantons of Vaud, Valais, Geneva and Neuchâtel. Early and delicate both in the vineyard and in the cellar, Chasselas produces subtle and elegant wines, to be enjoyed as an aperitif or in gastronomy.
