Artificial crossing Deckrot × Blauer Portugieser obtained in 1972 at the Geisenheim research station in Rheingau (D), Dakapo was marketed in 1999. It is a dyer grape variety with red flesh, mainly used in blending, hence its name that comes from the Italian "da capo" meaning "still" in music, in reference to its role as an improving grape variety. Early and resistant to cold, it is cultivated in cool terroirs. In Switzerland, its presence is relatively weak.
