An artificial Robin Noir × Pinot Noir cross, Diolinoir was obtained in 1970 at the Agroscope research center in Pully (Switzerland) in order to intensify the color of Pinot Noir. It takes its name from its parents, the Robin Noir being called Rouge de Diolly in Valais. Resistant to gray rot, it gives powerful and full-bodied wines, often used in blending.
