An artificial Helfensteiner × Heroldrebe cross, the Dornfelder was obtained in 1956 at the Weinsberg research center in Baden-Württemberg (D), and named after one of the founders of the center. Productive and resistant to gray rot, very rich in color, Dornfelder is mainly used in Switzerland in blending.

Aroma Potential
Gives a full-bodied wine, with a beautiful ruby red color, fruity, fragrant, supple with rather coated tannins and generally good acidity. It has long been used as a coupage wine - or even as a table grape - but today consumers demand / prefer it as a single varietal. Aromas of banana, blackcurrant, spices, raspberry, morello cherries, blackberry, plum, elderberry, tobacco.
