Artificial cross Sylvaner × Pinot Gris, Freisamer was obtained in 1916 in Freiburg (D), hence its synonym of Freiburger used among others in Switzerland, while Freisamer is a contraction of Freiburg and Dreisam, the river that crosses the city . A relatively late variety, giving wines with pronounced acidity, it is planted sporadically in Switzerland, including in the canton of Friborg, which is certainly no coincidence.
