Johanniter

Hybrid resulting from an artificial self-fertilization of Riesling × Freiburg 589-54 (with himself), the Johanniter was obtained in 1968 at the Freiburg research center in Baden-Württemberg (D). It was named in honor of former director Johannes Zimmermann. Very productive and multi-resistant, it gives fresh wines in Switzerland, on citrus fruits, with a bitterness often hidden by a little residual sugar.
