Malbec

Cot, originating in the region of Cahors (F) and taking its name from a contraction of Cahors, was widespread in Argentina at the end of the 19th century under the name of its propagator, a winegrower named Malbeck. The DNA test revealed that it is a natural cross between Prunelard (from Tarn) and Magdeleine Noire from Charentes, an old grape that has almost disappeared which is also the progenitor of Merlot. Malbec and Merlot are therefore half-brothers. In Switzerland, this grape variety sensitive to coulure brings a spicy side to the blends.
