An old variety from Savoie (F), Mondeuse Blanche has long been wrongly considered to be a mutation of Mondeuse Noire, which is much more widespread. In fact, the DNA test has shown that the rare Mondeuse Blanche is the natural mother of Syrah by crossing with Dureza d'Ardèche, and as a child or a parent of Mondeuse Noire and Viognier. In Switzerland, there are only a few plots of this discreet, late grape variety, giving fairly neutral wines rich in alcohol.
