Muscat Ottonel

An artificial cross obtained accidentally in 1839 in Angers (F), this grape variety was named in honor of a certain H. Ottonel. Its parentage remained uncertain until DNA testing determined it to be a Chasselas × Muscat from Eisenstadt. This early variety, susceptible to fungal diseases, is rich in sugar, and can be used to make dry or sweet wines. In Switzerland, its presence is limited.
