Little-known grape of the Gironde (F), Petit Verdot was mentioned in 1736 in Bordeaux where it always played a minor role in blends to give body and aromas. This late and productive grape variety, sensitive to drought, is rarely cultivated in Switzerland, where it generally enters Bordeaux-style blends to which it brings power, color and lots of tannins.
