Historic grape variety from north-eastern France, Pinot Noir probably originates from Burgundy where it was already mentioned in 1375. In Switzerland, Pinot Noir historically exists in the canton of Vaud under the old name of Servagnin already mentioned in 1472 , then later under Salvagnin in the cantons of Vaud and Neuchâtel from 1775. In this latter canton he is also known under the names Técou and Cortaillod from 1754, while in Valais it is under the name of Petite Dôle that he spread from 1848. This early and not very productive grape variety is the most planted in Switzerland. Its wines of international stature offer aromas of strawberries, and are generally fresh and elegant.
