Born in Isère (F) from a natural cross between Dureza d'Ardèche and Mondeuse Blanche de Savoie, Syrah takes its name from the Latin serus (late), in reference to its maturity. Cited in 1781 in the Hermitage vineyard in the Rhône Valley, it is from there that it was introduced in Valais (Switzerland) in 1921 at the Domaine de l''Etat in Leytron. The majority of the vines are still found today in Valais where the Syrah gives wines of international stature on spices, blond tobacco, with a silky mouth and a great volume.
