Blaufränkisch × Dornfelder artificial cross created at the Weinsberg research center in Baden-Württemberg (D) in 1971, Acolon was included in the official register in 2002. Early, rich in anthocyanins and sugar, this variety is quite widespread in the Rhine Palatinate region in Germany, but it is scarce in Switzerland where it produces wines similar to its Blaufränkisch (or Blauer Limberger) parent.

Aroma Potential

The Acolon grape variety, with black grapes, gives a distinguished wine, with a dark red color, spicy and balanced aromas with subtle tannins. There are red and black fruits, such as raspberries, currants, blackberries and plums. Its aging in oak barrels gives it accents of pepper, paprika, eucalyptus, vanilla and woody notes. To serve at 18 ° C with game, strong cheeses, processed cheeses, smoked meats, cured meats as well as with dark chocolate.
