Aligoté is a natural Pinot × Gouais Blanc cross that appeared towards the end of the 18th century in the Saône valley in Burgundy (F), it is therefore a brother of Gamay, Chardonnay, Melon and other less known. Its name derives from Gôt, an old synonym of Gouais Blanc, its formerly widespread father and now almost extinct. Early and sensitive to fungal diseases, with variable yields depending on the land, Aligoté is planted mainly in Côte d'Or and in Chablis in Burgundy, where it is also used to make kir. In Switzerland, it is mainly found in Geneva, where it produces wines with refreshing natural acidity.
Aroma Potential
Gives a lively, lively wine, more or less aromatic sometimes presenting a particular character, to drink quickly in most cases. Aromas of acacia, lemon, hazelnut, white peach, green apple, grape, vanilla.
