Arvine Wines Selection

This emblematic grape variety from Valais (Switzerland) was already mentioned in 1602 under the name of Arvena, which could mean "upstart, just arrived". This etymology can be explained by the fact that this variety is orphaned, the DNA test not having found any parents. Its alleged Roman origin is not based on any serious argument. Often called Petite Arvine, in opposition to the Grosse Arvine of which it is probably an ancestor, the Arvine is almost exclusively cultivated in Valais where it produces dry or sweet wines ("withered") of international stature, with citrus aromas and with invigorating acidity. It is also found in other Swiss cantons, as well as in the Aosta Valley (I) and in France.

Aroma Potential

Gives a racy, full-bodied, virile, very distinctive, elegant, complex and in most cases very balanced wine, with almost always a saline final note. It can be drunk young, dry, sweet or syrupy, it should be noted that its aging potential can last for several years.
Aromas of citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit, ...), pineapple, mushrooms (notes of), quince, spices, passion fruit, yellow stone fruits, flowering wisteria, mango, honey (touch of), rhubarb.
