Grape of the Month

Himbertscha

Informations

WHITE Indigenous 2 HA 0.01%
Extremely rare grape variety from Haut-Valais (Switzerland), Himbertscha is a natural child of Humagne Blanc, and a half-brother of Lafnetscha, another curiosity of Haut-Valais. Its name does not come from Himbeer (raspberry) but from the dialect "im Bercla" meaning "in the trellis". It was saved from extinction in the 1970s by Josef-Marie Chanton, who is still the only producer in the world with a tiny vine. Its wine is elegant, high in acidity, with strange muscat notes.
